In April of 2009, I traveled to Africa to with Project Have Hope, a nonprofit organization that works with a group of 100 women in the Acholi Quarter of
Uganda and helps them transform their lives and the lives of their families.
The Acholi women make beautiful, handmade paper bead jewelry (see picture to the left) meaning they’re already crafty. This is why, when asked if I’d like to conduct a workshop while I was there, I chose knitting and crochet.
And so, on my third day in Uganda I hosted half-day Knit 101 and Crochet 101 workshops for about 25 women (even though about 75% of the women were far from beginners). The trip was a wonderful experience, one which changed my life forever. Watch a short video from the workshop below.
